Maya Erdelyi is an award-winning animator & artist. She creates intricate hand-made animations, collages and installations inspired by imaginary worlds, music, memories, family history and dreams. Elements in her work include: printmaking, painting, puppetry, stop-motion, bold colors, patterns and found paper textures. Through her own search for meaning in history, memories and the nature of reality, her films, collages and projects aim to create a space of wonder to contemplate life, death & magic. 

Maya’s work has involved: experimental animation, collage, printmaking, curatorial projects, full moon artist salons, drawing clubs, sleep concerts in giant wooden fort structures, puppet shows, making clothing and textiles, renegade fashion shows in the Paris Metro, domestic ‘happenings’, and various collaborative projects involving visual music. Screenings and shows include: national and international film festivals, galleries, museums and DIY venues including the Ann Arbor Film Festival, MoMA NYC, REDCAT LA, Harvard Film Archives, Animation Block Party, among others. More recently: a solo show at Trustman Gallery at Simmons University (Fall 2022), artist workshops at the ICA Boston (summer 2022), and a 2019 Yaddo Residency.

Maya is a Colombian/Hungarian first-generation American. Born and raised bilingually in New York City, she is currently based in Boston where she teaches animation. She lives there with her husband, an animator and their daughter Paloma.
